I take great interest
in analyzing things and have always thought of sharing my musings. Today I finally
took the decision to publish them through a blog. As a self-proclaimed music critic,
I opted to write about the most outstanding songs of the past decade.
I am going
to start with a song of the most popular and prolific singer of this decade. I
agree that it is a bit predictable that I chose to begin with a song by Arijit.
But ‘Channa Mereya’ certainly has qualities that make it stand apart.
For me this song was the
most nostalgia invoking song of the said decade. Amitabh Bhattacharya, Arijit and Pritam Da
have created something extraordinary here. And it does justice to Karan Johar’s
tradition of successfully showing intense emotions. The picturization could
surprise you though, if you came across the audio version first. It could feel
too heavy on your senses, at first; when you have imagined it to be in a
different way.
The song has so many
words that have not been used in Hindi songs for a while. And it paints a
quaint picture of the 90s, when people still used to write letters. It mentions
things like spending time on the Aangan (terrace) with friends that most of us
miss doing now.
This song has been
popularized as the breakup song when really it is a song of unrequited love.
Its huge popularity could also be because most of its lines convey the
universal feeling of parting from your dear ones.
Very well written. You have written spot on without dilly-dallying or going off on tangents. I really loved it, it made me listen to the song once again even though i must have listened to it millions of time.
ReplyDeleteNicely put.....and yes it's going to be a song to remember
